Blossoming Bellies’ birth classes are based on Birth Works philosophies, providing a non-judgmental space for women and their partners to find research-based information, explore their birth priorities, and build confidence and empowerment for their birth and parenting journeys. Classes are designed for women and their partners, birthing in hospitals, birthing centers, and at home.
Homebirth Preparation Class: (South Philly only)
The homebirth-specific group childbirth class is offered in a three week (six hour) format. Class topics are similar to the general childbirth classes and follow the same holistic philosophies but are geared towards couples
choosing to birth at home.
Topics include informed decision making and shared trust between the client and
midwife, pelvic bodywork and optimal positioning of the baby for a smoother labor, nourishment and movement for a healthy pregnancy, mindfulness and partner exercises to build confidence and trust in oneself and each other, the physiological and emotional process of labor, interventions and hospital transfer and when they are necessary,
natural comfort measures and positions for labor, and the postpartum period.
Moving Through Labor: (South Philly only)
Moving Through Labor, is a two hour class dedicated to understanding the pelvis, optimal position for the baby, and movements and techniques for minimizing positioning-related complications during labor. The skills developed in this workshop help expectant couples work through common stall points in labor and can help to avoid unnecessary interventions. We cover pelvic bodywork, creating space for the baby through pregnancy and labor, understanding fetal presentation, position, and attitude (head flexion!) in addition to moving into helpful and supportive positions, and use of the Rebozo for encouraging pelvic, fetal, and amniotic fluid movement.
**Please remember that this workshop is not a childbirth preparation class and does not take the place of a childbirth preparation class. It is designed specifically for focusing more in-depth on complications that can arise in pregnancy due to malpositioning of the baby.**
Breastfeeding 101: (South Philly only)
Breastfeeding 101, a comprehensive two hour workshop, covers the basics of milk production, how to know that your baby is getting enough, proper positioning and latch for successful nursing, possible complications and their resolutions, common breastfeeding misconceptions, and information on storing and expressing milk.
